About Us
In 1854, when a young Queen Victoria was in the first third of her long reign, GW Halsey and Son opened their Tea and Provisions store in Hitchin. Sited between the bustling Market Square and the magnificent, Minster-like church it was perfectly positioned - and, over the following years, developed an enviable reputation.
During the twentieth century, it became part of the much-respected Jacksons of Piccadilly. And, in January 2006, Kirsty and Damian Caldwell took over Halseys and tranformed it. They made it a matter of pride to retain all that was best of the old and add the best of the new.
The introduction of the tearoom, hot meat rolls, takeaway service, ice cream tricycles, hampers, local food evenings, 'fill it yourself' olive oil service, local art displays, business lunches and the catering service are all innovations in perfect keeping with the Halseys traditions. And there will be many more to come!
